Focus on "weather"

Weather conditions may affect demand for the hairdresser's services. Ladies' hairdressers in particular may experience a decline in trade at times when very wet, cold or windy conditions prevail, as clients are often reluctant to spend large sums of money on hairstyles which will shortly be ruined. Sales may also fall during very warm periods, when clients may be reluctant to visit a hot salon. A summary of UK weather conditions over the last seven years is given below;

- Above average rainfall, except for a particularly dry and hot July. Continued mild into winter.

- A dry and windy spring, followed by an exceptionally dry and hot summer. Continued clement into autumn after a wet September, with cold snaps during winter.

- Generally dull and cold in winter, with a cool, dry but still dull spring. A warmer and drier than average summer, followed by an average to warm autumn and a cold December.

- Cold and very dry in winter, followed by a warm, dry spring. A wet but generally warm summer, becoming drier in September and October then giving way to windy, unsettled conditions for the rest of the year.

- A warm but very wet spring followed by a cool, changeable and predominantly wet summer. Continuing changeable into autumn, with warmer but wet conditions in September (particularly warm in Scotland) followed by flooding and gales in October. Drier for the remainder of the year, with some very cold periods and snow in Scotland and the north.

- A mild but rather wet and windy start to the year, albeit with some prolonged sunny periods. Continuing unsettled and wet but warmer into spring, followed by a warm and generally dry summer. Warm and dry conditions continued into autumn following a very wet September, with warmer than average temperatures persisting into December.

- A wet start to the year, with some cold wintry periods and a very wet April. A warm but somewhat unsettled summer followed, with some brief hot spells but above average rainfall. Warm conditions continued into autumn, which was the wettest on record and saw severe storms and widespread flooding. December was warmer than average with further heavy rainfall.

- A dry start to the year, but wetter, more unsettled conditions returned in late winter and persisted into early spring. A generally warm, dry summer, although July and particularly August saw some very wet spells. Autumn was wet but very warm in most parts, becoming somewhat drier and considerably colder towards the end of the year.
