Legislation and regulation Licensing requirements Hairdressers should be aware of the following; - under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, if background music is provided, a licence from the Performing Right Society (PRS) is required. In addition, for the public use of music recordings a licence from Phonographic Performance Limited is required, and for the public use of videos, a licence from Video Performance Limited is required
- hairdressers must register with their local authority Environmental Health Department (there is no charge for registering) and conform with any local bye laws made under the Public Health Act 1961
